The Terre di Pisa Bike Trail is a permanent route which allows cyclists to explore some of the Pisa area’s most authentic and evocative corners, immersing themselves in Tuscany’s extraordinary colours and landscapes. But this land is not just about landscapes; it is also rich in flavours, aromas, people and stories.
Thanks to the efforts of the North-West Tuscany Chamber of Commerce and the Terre di Pisa Community, participants will enjoy a unique experience meeting locals, hearing stories and tasting the region’s finest produce.
Sea, mountains, historic towns, dirt roads, cypress trees and forests, culinary excellence… the Terre di Pisa Bike Trail is Tuscany at its finest.
The 300 km / 5,000 m D+ “The Best Of” route takes in the most iconic places in the area.
The “Extended” route, covering 450 km / 10,000 m elevation gain, is designed for those who have more time and strong legs.
For a smoother, more organised experience, purchase the Starter Pack at one of our Trail Heads. This includes a beautiful collectible cap, vouchers to spend with our partners along the route, a road book, and most importantly of all, a digital guide to accompany cyclists throughout the trail and enhance their experience.

The Terre di Pisa Bike Trail is perfect for those seeking a bikepacking adventure without time constraints or technical assistance. With the GPX track available, you can decide when to leave, where to stop and how far to cycle each day.
The route alternates between dirt roads, forest trails and medieval villages and can be travelled on gravel or mountain bikes. Every stage presents an opportunity to stop: you could visit a winery, explore a village, or simply relax in a hammock between two trees and enjoy the sunset over the Tuscan hills.
Total autonomy means you can adapt the trip to your abilities and desires. It’s not a race — it’s your personal encounter with Terre di Pisa.
Your time, your route.

Culture is not confined to museums here; it is found in the squares, Romanesque churches and medieval walls, and in the details of the facades and the stories told by the people who live here every day.
Iconic places such as Pisa and its tower enrich each stage of the journey, as do Volterra, the Certosa di Calci, and the villages of Vicopisano, Ghizzano, Terricciola and Peccioli, not to mention the truffle-rich hills of San Miniato.
Cycling, you not only cross Tuscany, but also its history.

The Terre di Pisa Bike Trail offers offers not only a route through iconic landscapes and unforgettable views, but also an authentic experience in the heart of a region rich in character.
As you cycle through hills, villages, and back roads, you’ll have the chance to meet locals, hear their stories, learn about their traditions, and be amazed by everything that makes this region truly unique.
It’s a journey that combines nature, culture, and culinary delights, where every stop can turn into a discovery.
Wine, extra virgin olive oil, beer, truffles, pasta, chocolate, ice cream… we have everything you need!

When you cycle here, you pass through medieval villages and along quiet alleys and sunny squares. Every stop is special: taking a break in the shade of a historic building, sharing a coffee under the arcades or enjoying a moment of contemplation in front of a Romanesque parish church.
The route crosses a variety of landscapes, from the Pisan hills to the coast. As the sun sets and the light warms and colours the medieval towers or reflects on the coastline, each pedal stroke becomes an experience that unites the body, mind and heart.
The trail is designed for those who see cycling not only as a sustainable means of transport, but also as a way to experience the area at a slower, more mindful pace, forging genuine connections with places and people.
It’s an invitation to slow down, share authentic moments, and create lasting memories through an intimate and surprising Tuscany.
The route alternates between gravel sections, cycle paths, and secondary roads, including some short segments on roads with traffic.
It goes from perfect asphalt to dirt sections, from challenging climbs to scenic descents, in a continuous change of pace and landscape.
Precisely because of this variety, a minimum of cycling experience and a good familiarity with different types of terrain are required, so that you can enjoy the adventure safely and in the right spirit.

Terre di Pisa Bike Trail is the result of collaboration between the Northwest Tuscany Chamber of Commerce and the Terre di Pisa Community. The project is part of the Terre di Pisa Operational Plan, funded by the Region of Tuscany, and demonstrates a tangible commitment to promoting cycle tourism as a tool for sustainable development and local enhancement.
