Description
Founded in 1366, the Carthusian Monastic Complex is a fascinating blend of medieval, Renaissance and 18th century architecture: the late Baroque paintings in the church are marvellous, as well as the access road in a unique setting. Strolling through the whole complex, you discover how art and optical illusions come together in a perfect balance. You see how monks used to live, simple and silent, and how their life was punctuated by moments of prayer and manual labour, an existence dedicated to meditation and discipline. You meet also the important guests who visited it over the centuries, such as the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, in a journey through spirituality and history in a place of timeless peace.
