Awarded by the Italian Touring Club (“Orange Flag Village”), Vicopisano is a medieval jewel just a few km from Pisa, a “must” along the Monti Pisani Oil Road. The tour starts outside the walls, at the romanesque Parish Church, built in local stone and boasting a 13th-century wooden sculpture. It continues through the narrow streets of the medieval village up to Palazzo Pretorio and the 15th-century Fortress (Rocca) designed by Brunelleschi, with its layered defensive structure. The route includes hidden parish churches at the foot of the Verruca Mount and a visit to an old local oil mill where a tasting of extra virgin olive oil will be served.
