Pisa old town, surrounded by a walkway of medieval walls, shows a rich, unexpected heritage of art and monuments. The walking tour starts in Piazza dei Miracoli, UNESCO World Heritage Site, continues along Via Santa Maria among tower-houses and Renaissance palaces, the oldest University Botanical Garden in the world. The wonderful setting of Piazza dei Cavalieri, designed by Giorgio Vasari, recalls past and present history: the lively alleys nearby lead to the old market area and to the University where Galileo, born in Pisa, started to teach. Walking along the Lungarni (riversides), you are attracted by the shape of colorful buildings, churches and museums. Crossing the bridge, the medieval Kinzica and the contemporary murales ‘Tuttomondo’ by Keith Haring and “Galileo” by the Brazilian artist Kobra.
